The karaṇa checker.
Each tithi has two karaṇas — half-tithi units that classify a moment for the work you're about to begin. Bava and Balava favour religious rites, Gara is best for house construction and sowing, Vaṇija for trade. Viṣṭi (Bhadra) is a universal hard-avoid for any auspicious work. Pick a single date or paste a list — results below.

Karaṇa reading — half-tithi auspiciousness
This birth-chart calculation uses NASA-grade ephemeris (the astronomy-engine library) with Lahiri Ayanamsha, the standard for Indian Jyotish. Output reflects sidereal positions at the date / time / place you entered. Small differences from other software may occur due to ayanamsha choice (Lahiri vs Raman vs Krishnamurti) or timezone interpretation of historical births.
Karaṇas split each tithi into two halves and rotate through eleven types (seven movable, four fixed). The Vishti / Bhadra karaṇa is traditionally avoided for new starts. Calculation uses local sunrise as the day-boundary reference. For a sub-hour muhurta window for Bhumi Pujan, Griha Pravesh, or any new venture, confirm with a qualified Jyotishi or panchanga app — small latitude / longitude errors in city coordinates can shift karaṇa boundaries by 10–30 minutes.
Before acting on any planetary period (Mahadasha), Tara Bala, Muhurta or other Jyotish recommendation, please consult a qualified Jyotishi or Acharya.
